** Autres expressions : **

[ 1 ]

I have accepted a position as head of the export department (= poste de chef du service export) at Thomson and Co Ltd.

I am handing in my resignation (= je vous présente ma démission) because I have been offered the post of General Manager at Thomson Ltd.

[ 2 ]

I am taking this step with reluctance (= je prends cette importante décision à regret) because I get on well (= je m'entends bien) with everybody in the company / because my present occupation is rewarding (= enrichissant). But...

I wish to tell you how sorry I am (= je voudrais vous dire combien je regrette) to leave the company where I have worked for ten years now (= où je travaille depuis 10 ans).

[ 3 ]

I understand that, with the export market being so difficult at the moment, you cannot grant me the salary increase (= l'augmentation de salaire) that I feel my qualifications and experience as export assistant (= sous-directeur du service export) deserve (= méritent).

I will have more opportunity to travel (= des perspectives de voyages) on my new company.

Another reason why I have taken this job with the Société Lamarque in Rouen is that my wife has just been relocated (= transférée) to that area (= région).

Unfortunately, I cannot go on working for you in Britain as I have just married a French-man who lives in Marseille.

[ 4 ]

That is why I will be leaving at the end of the year / in three months' time.

** Vocabulaire complémentaire : **

a challenging job = un travail stimulant
to give in a month' s / three month's notice = donner un préavis de un mois, de trois mois
to quit (Américain) = démissionner
a testimonial = un certificat de travail
